The Kenilworth is located in a narrow by-lane and has been in the running ever since 1983. This 5 star hotel with its full of services and has competent staff. The staff of the hotel claims that the hotel makes as much sense to the business traveler as to those seeking a taste of the city’s heritage and nostalgia.

Lobby
On entering this desirable abode, you are welcomed with a long elongated lobby with the reception counter, cashier and bell desk all on your left hand side. These counters are done up in wood with large gold lettering on them to clearly mark the counter and services provided. On the right hand side of the long lobby are a couple of seating spaces with brown and beige patterned sofas and brass cum wood centre tables with a wood top and glass covering over it. A large magnificent wooden, circular table shows itself off in the centre of the lobby with a glass vase holding an elaborate flower decoration within it. The area is lit with lovely crystal chandeliers and halogen lights. A pastry shop stands at the end of the lobby beside the travel desk and sells delectable deserts made in the in house bakery. Another striking feature is the life size ebony figurine that stands in an intriguing position along with a bird. There is also a counter with two house phones. This lobby leads to various other areas like Aromas – the restaurant, a business centre and to other floors via the staircase and the elevators.

Rooms
The hotel has a whopping 106 rooms which are categorized into more economical and more extravagant categories such as 15 Standard rooms which are the lowest category, 6 Premiere Club rooms, 80 Business Class Suites and 1 Royal Suite. The rooms are a mixture of road facing and lawn facing rooms, each with either carpeted or wooden flooring. The facilities common to all the rooms include cable television, wireless internet connection in the rooms at an extra charge, direct dial STD/ISD telephones, mini bar, locker, tea/coffee maker, 24 hours room service, 24 hours hot & cold running water and bathtubs in all the washrooms. The Standard room was tastefully done with a blue carpet and greenish sofas with a glass top centre table in the seating area. The study table in the rooms gives it an old world charm to it as it sat pretty in front of a mirror along with a chair. The attached washroom is all white with a lovely white shower curtain and all the amenities like dental kits, shaving kits, soaps, shampoos, moisturizers and shower caps. The higher end rooms like the Deluxe room are done up in all green with green soft satin bedcovers and duvets, a striped green sofa and a beautiful study table with a lamp on it, a floor lamp with a wood base and a white lampshade and green curtains. The colour scheme adds calm, relaxing feel to the room. The Suites enjoy added benefits like 2 free beers in the mini bar, fruit platter on request and a DVD player with movies on request. The rooms scream luxury and are worth the money spent on them.

Services & Facilities
For the convenience and comfort of the guests, extra services and amenities offered by the hotel are 24 hours room service, same day laundry and dry cleaning facilities, currency exchange, butler service, baby sitting, travel desk, car rental, secretarial service and acceptance of credit cards.

Dining
The multiple choices of dining options offered by the hotel are classy and quite desirable. To sample a delicacy at one of these restaurants will be a wise choice. Aromas – the 12 hour multi cuisine restaurant is open from 7:30 am to 11:30 pm and is tastefully furnished in red. With black and grey marble flooring, red leather sofas, steel base and glass top dining tables, bright red and yellow table runners across tabletops, beige pillars and halogen lights across the boundaries of the ceiling, all make this a delightful place to dine in. A breakfast buffet is served here. There is also Sanjha Chula – the multi cuisine restaurant which is open from 7:00 am to 11:30 pm. It is an open air restaurant with a wooden shack as a shelter. It is furnished with comfortable canvas chairs and conducts open air barbecues in the evenings. Marble Room is the authentic Indian restaurant which is open for lunch (12:00 noon to 3:00 pm) and dinner (7:00 pm to 11:30 pm). This sophisticated space looks out into the lawns and has European style arches at the windows, pale green table covers on the dining tables and patterned wooden chairs. A large flower arrangement welcomes the guests into this area. There is also Big Ben which is the only English style pub in Calcutta. It has an oval bar enclosure with a marble top counter. The walls are adorned with advertising posters of cigarette packs, beers and cigars amongst others. Wood furniture, dim lighting and wood paneled walls make up this bar along with painted clay figurines mounted on the walls and sculpted busts of Jazz players. The bar is open from 7:00 pm to midnight and features a DJ every night. Finally, there is Alcove which is a conference hall by day and a bar by night. With this list, be sure to find your favourite dish or add a new favourite to your existing list.

Banquets & Conferences
The business facilities at the hotel are plenty as well. There is Banquet 1 which can accommodate 400 persons. It has partial marble flooring and partial wooden flooring and is well lit with crystal chandeliers and halogen lights. Here all equipment is supplied with the cost of booking the room, with only the projector at an extra cost. A Boardroom is present in the basement and it has an interconnected unisex washroom. Finally, there is a Business Centre at the lobby level which houses a boardroom and computers with internet, printing, fax and the works.

With all these basic facilities and luxuries thrown in for good measure, the hotel offers a great retreat for families on leisure vacations or business travelers on official visits. A great place to stay in while in the city.

The hotel is located 16 kilometres from the railway station, 25 kilometres from the airport and just a kilometer or two away from the US Consulate, Metro Plaza – shopping mall and the famous AC Market which offers everything under the sun.
